When Fun Plans Get Canceled…

…you improvise.

We are only three weeks into our New Year’s resolution and it’s quickly headed south. My girlfriend and I are already slipping on our mission to try one new thing every week. Sounds easy, it’s not.

In 2019, Forbes reported that nearly 80% of New Year’s resolutions fail. We will not fail. It just won’t happen. We’re not ending our adventure by any means, but just our third experiment fell through at the last minute.

I don’t want to reveal our original plans, as we will probably try them again later in the year. I sure hope so — I was excited. It seemed fun.

So we had to quickly come up with something neither one of us had ever done with the clock ticking. The end of Week 3 was fast approaching.

I thought of a game. It’s not particularly original by any means.

Taylor and I would write a story — 100 words at a time. I would write the first part, she would write the second, back and forth a few times until we’ve each had a few turns.

The twist? We wouldn’t be able to read the part preceding the one we were writing. All we would receive is the last line, inevitably leading our story into offbeat directions.

Inventive? No. But we had fun. It didn’t cost us a cent. And, above all, it was a new…
