Our First Staycation

Going out while staying safe.

New Year’s Eve is practically synonymous with large crowds. Be it the Times Square Ball Drop or sparklers, noisemakers, and a toast amongst friends — many elect to ring in the calendar change surrounded by others.

I don’t need to tell you that this year was different for us. We were not the only ones searching for an alternative celebration, breaking the mold of the usual fanfare.

We contemplated getting tested (as would our friends), isolating until the results come back, and celebrating with our closest confidantes — our celebration of choice for most New Years. On top of being imprecise, it just seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

So we wanted to come up with an idea for a celebration that would be special, but with an emphasis on safety.

It didn’t take much time to come up with the perfect plan: a staycation.

“Just like it sounds — a staycation means you’ll be staying at home (or in town) while on “vacation.” Think of it as a way to “get away from it all” by going nowhere.” Dave Ramsey

Believe it or not, we had never done such a thing together. We love to travel (with Atlanta, NYC, and the beaches of Delaware being some of our favorite trips together), and with time off, we don’t tend to stay…
